Naimah Bukenya

Ms. Bukenya is a lawyer and labour rights activist. She earned her Bachelor in Laws degree from Makerere University Kampala and a Master’s in Human Rights Law from Northeastern University in the United States of America.

Ms. Bukenya has extensive experience in advocating for issues on human trafficking, child labour, migrant labour and social security laws. She currently heads the legal department at the Platform for Labour Action, a non-governmental organization that advocates for workers’ rights in Uganda.

Over the past decade, Ms. Bukenya has defended, promoted and advocated for the rights of vulnerable and marginalized people, including, low-wage earners, female domestic workers, victims of commercial sexual exploitation and human trafficking, as well as, children involved in exploitative labour.

She has managed a caseload of over 50,000 workers seeking legal representation and contributed to the formulation of strategies to enable effective access to justice for the most vulnerable.
