Despite the adoption and enactment of several sexual offences related policies and laws, sexual violence and assault are still common occurrence in Uganda. Annually, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees reports thousands of soaring cases of sexual and gender based violence within refugee settlements, while, the Uganda Police Force records similar number of rape and defilement cases countrywide. Sexual violence strips victims of their human dignity and a range of dignity-related rights, including integrity and security of a person.
